The Power of Small Acts of Kindness and Expressing Gratitude
Makes all the difference in the world
Dear Reader,
Have you ever had one of those days where it feels like no matter how hard you try, your cup just can't stay full? And then, when you least expect it, you receive a phone call from someone who simply wants to share how much they love and appreciate you? Today is one of those days for me. This newsletter started with a different intention, but before I could even write the second sentence, its entire premise shifted in an instant. It's truly amazing how a spontaneous declaration of love can change your energy field.
Think about it—when was the last time you called a friend just to express how much they mean to you? I can't even recall the last time I had that raw impulse to say, "Hey, I really enjoy having you in my life." Imagine the collective shift in vibration if we all made such calls twice a week for a month. Imagine the ripple effect that something as pure as expressing gratitude could create. For me, that unexpected phone call was exactly what I needed.
I had initially sat down to write about feelings of unworthiness and the constant seeking of external validation. In those first few moments, I found myself questioning, "Do I even have friends? Would anyone care if I disappeared?" And then, like magic, the universe conspired to deliver the message my heart needed to hear most. So, instead of a newsletter filled with woe and angst, here I am, sharing the beauty that even the smallest act of kindness can bring to our community—simple and easy.
I know many of you reading this have a "Mission on Earth," even if you're not entirely sure what that mission entails. I once thought my mission was to "save the world," but I soon realized how grandiose that idea was and how it set me up for failure. The truth is, I don't have to save the entire world alone, and I can make a meaningful impact through small, everyday actions. Whether it's bringing a meal and washing dishes for a new mother, donating $20 to a friend's passion project, or letting my beloved know just how much I care, it's these small acts of kindness that can create waves of compassion.
Perhaps we are so focused on expanding our reach that we forget about the people right here by our side. While this message may not resonate with everyone who reads it, if I can touch one heart or spark one soul, then the time and effort I've put into these thoughts are worthwhile.
One of my mentors once said, "It's not personal, but it is." This statement applies to relationships. In the conscious community, we are often told not to take things personally, which is true to some extent. However, there's also a level of intimacy we all need to feel supported by our loved ones and truly experience their care. Perhaps we've been practicing social distancing to such a degree that we all fear real vulnerability—fear of being seen. We judge ourselves before anyone else has the chance to react. Remember, we are not alone in this life or in our suffering. It's time to take the reins and communicate just how much we feel.
So, I leave you with these questions to ponder: How can you reconnect your heart to someone you care about? How can you show up, even in the tiniest of ways? Expressing gratitude and performing small acts of kindness can go a long way in rekindling the connections that matter most.
